Exchange buys plus wallet trades in one sheet: where your first SOL rows come from (record-keeping only)

Not tax advice. All numbers, tokens and signatures below are EXAMPLE data. This guide covers record-keeping only. How any of this is treated where you live is a question for a tax professional.

Most memecoin traders bought their first SOL on an exchange and traded from a wallet, so the wallet history starts with SOL arriving, not being bought. Our pump.fun guide explains why the SOL leg of your first swap shows OVERSOLD when that purchase is missing. This guide covers getting the exchange history into the same sheet, and the gap OVERSOLD does not catch.

Get the exchange file

Coinbase. Its help center says statements can be downloaded from the Statements page (desktop: Settings → Accounts → Statements). You can "Generate a custom statement by entering the Asset, Transaction type, and Date information from the drop-downs, choosing the format, and selecting Generate", and monthly statements come as HTML, PDF or CSV. It also notes that "Account statements are available from the time the account was created" (help.coinbase.com).

Kraken. Exports are created under Documents → Exports. "Trades" shows execution details, and "Ledgers" "Includes deposits, withdrawals, fees, and other balance changes over time". CSV is one format option (support.kraken.com). Requests "can take anywhere from a few minutes to up to a week to process". Kraken also notes that trades history "does not include the details of transactions conducted via the Buy Crypto Widget or Kraken app"; those appear only in the Ledger history (support.kraken.com). If you bought through the app, export the Ledger too.

Export from your very first purchase, not just the current year.

Turn it into rows

FIFO runs across the whole file, so exchange SOL and wallet SOL form one queue.

A worked EXAMPLE

Two exchange buys, a withdrawal of 4 SOL, then two wallet swaps:

Date Type Token Qty Price Fee G
2024-11-05 Buy SOL 3 100 1.50 EXCH-ref1
2025-02-10 Buy SOL 2 200 1.00 EXCH-ref2
2025-03-01 Sell SOL 2 180 0 sigA
2025-03-01 Buy MEMEX 1,000,000 0.00036 0.20 sigA
2025-04-01 Sell SOL 1.5 150 0 sigB
2025-04-01 Buy USDC 225 1.00 0.10 sigB

The withdrawal on 2025-02-12 is only a note. Recalculated in the shipped workbook:

The gap OVERSOLD doesn't catch

Now leave out the 2024 purchase, as happens when someone exports only the current year:

An OK only proves there were enough units; a missing early lot still changes which costs FIFO uses. Check the sheet's SOL holding against the exchange balance plus the wallet balance.

Withdrawal fees and other gaps

If the exchange charged a fee in SOL for the withdrawal, fewer SOL arrived than left. The workbook doesn't book that as a row, so the sheet's SOL holding stays slightly higher than reality. Note the fee in H. Whether it counts for anything is a question for a tax professional.
