How to log Solana airdrops and staking rewards in a spreadsheet (record-keeping only)

Not tax advice. Every number, token and signature below is EXAMPLE data. This is about record-keeping only: what to write down and where, so nothing gets lost. It does not say whether or how airdrops or staking rewards are taxed where you live. For that, ask a tax advisor.

Nah is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Solana, Solscan, Phantom or any staking provider; names only describe where data comes from. Crypto assets are volatile; you can lose some or all of your money. Sources checked 21 October 2026; details may change.

Airdrops and staking rewards arrive without a trade, often in tiny amounts. If you don't record them as they arrive, they are hard to rebuild later. This guide keeps two things apart:

  1. The trade log: Buy and Sell rows only. A FIFO sheet works from these.
  2. A notes log: a separate list of everything else (staking rewards, transfers between your own wallets, spam tokens), with enough detail to find each item on-chain again.

Step 1: Set up a notes log next to your trade log

Add a sheet (or a separate file) with these columns:

Date (UTC) Wallet Type Token Amount Source Tx signature / epoch Value noted (optional) Comment

The notes log is a record, not a calculation. Nothing in it changes the FIFO results of a Buy/Sell sheet.

Step 2: Staking rewards

On Solana, native staking happens through a stake account. Solscan's stake account page has a Rewards tab that "shows the amount of reward received after each epoch, account balance at the end of each epoch and the percentage of changes" (Solscan: Exploring Stake Account page). Figment's support center describes exporting that history: open the stake account on Solscan, go to the Rewards tab and click "Export CSV" (Figment).

Two practical points:

Then copy one line per reward (or per month, with the epochs listed) into the notes log.

Staking rewards are not calculated by the Buy/Sell sheet. They live in the Notes column or the separate notes log. How to treat them is a question for your tax advisor, and so is whether they should also appear as rows in your trade log.

Step 3: Airdrops

Airdrops are not calculated automatically: you can log them manually as a Buy row at a value you choose (e.g. 0 or fair value; ask an advisor which), as explained in the guide.

Find the airdrop in the wallet's Transfers export on Solscan ("indexed token transfer records", Solscan) and add a notes-log line with name and signature. If you add a Buy row, put the signature in the Tx hash column (G) and "airdrop" plus your price source in Notes (H).

Spam tokens: don't delete them silently; mark them spam in the notes log.

Step 4: Transfers between your own wallets

Moving SOL from your main wallet to a burner is not a trade. Transfers between your own wallets are not calculated by the Buy/Sell sheet. Don't enter them as Buy or Sell rows; log them in the notes log with both addresses and the signature. How to treat them is a question for your tax advisor. With one workbook copy per wallet, the notes log also shows where a wallet's balance came from.

Step 5: Watch for OVERSOLD later

A FIFO Buy/Sell sheet only knows the units you logged as Buy rows. If a later sell is bigger than earlier Buy rows, a good template flags it OVERSOLD. Check the notes log first: the missing units are often a reward or an airdrop. Whether to add a row for them is a question for your tax advisor, not something the sheet decides.

Step 6: Year-end routine

  1. Export each wallet's Transfers and DeFi Activities, and each stake account's Rewards. Solscan's website export returns "the latest 1,000 records only (even within the selected filtered range)", so use date filters for busy wallets (Solscan).
  2. Save the raw files unchanged, named by wallet and date range.
  3. Make sure every incoming token is either in the trade log or in the notes log.
  4. Resolve every OVERSOLD row before you rely on any total.

A ready-made option

If you'd rather not build the trade log yourself: the Nah Crypto Tax Tracker is an .xlsx plus PDF guide with Buy/Sell rows, swaps entered as Sell + Buy, one fiat Fee column, FIFO by date then row order, an OVERSOLD flag and a per-year Summary for 2024–2030. The workbook accepts only Buy and Sell rows; transfers and staking can only be noted in the Notes column and are not calculated.
