Free Crypto Trade Log Template – How to use

Note: this free CSV is a separate record-keeping log, not a direct import into the paid workbook.

Not tax advice. This template only helps you organise records. Tax rules differ by country; consult a qualified tax professional.

  1. Open trade-log-template.csv in Excel, Google Sheets or LibreOffice.
  2. Delete the 4 example rows (three are marked "EXAMPLE ROW"; the transfer row uses the placeholder EXAMPLE_TXID).
  3. Add one row per event. type is one of: buy, sell, swap, transfer, income, fee. Transfer example: a transfer between your own wallets. Record the network fee too, and ask your tax advisor how to treat it.
  4. These types are for this free log only. The paid workbook calculates Buy and Sell rows only (a swap is a Sell plus a Buy); other types show UNSUPPORTED TYPE.
  5. Use UTC for time_utc and ISO dates (YYYY-MM-DD) so exports from different exchanges line up.
  6. Record fiat value at the time of the event in one fiat currency, plus the fee asset/amount.
  7. For swaps, log both sides (e.g. a sell of the asset given, a buy of the asset received) if your accountant asks for it.
  8. Paste the tx hash so every row can be verified later. Keep exchange CSV exports alongside.

Log buys and sells (swaps as a sell plus a buy) and get FIFO cost basis, realized gain/loss per year, and current holdings by token. Airdrops are not calculated automatically: you can log them manually as a Buy row at a value you choose (e.g. 0 or fair value; ask an advisor which), as explained in the guide. The workbook accepts only Buy and Sell rows; transfers and staking can only be noted in the Notes column and are not calculated. Spreadsheet + PDF guide, 29 USDC: see the Nah Crypto Tax Tracker
